intentional thoughts

I heard this morning marriage is like the phone ringing at three am in the morning. First there are a couple rings, then you wake up.

I love my wife.

I don't know what happens when you're dating that your significant other can do no wrong...then when you get married your significant other can do no right.

The preacher talked about Proverbs 31 yesterday in church. There was a joke that for every proverbs 31 woman, there is a proverbs 1-30 man. That's a lot to strive for!

If I had written it for men, with just my few years of marriage under my belt, it would look something like this, starting in verse 10:

10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies, your sport coupe and 50" flat screen hdtv with 1000-watt surround sound, combined.

11 Her husband has full (complete, the utmost capacity, the maximum possible) confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.

12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. Don't take for granted all the good every day that she brings.

13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands, every morning to make the bed and every evening to make sure your clothes for the next morning are washed, dried and ready for tomorrow.

14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar, whether that food is carry-out or momma-in-law's family recipe

15 She gets up while it is still dark to put the defrosted meat that she put out the night before into the crockpot with vegetables for dinner in 10 hours, with an extra portion for anyone who may happen to stop by.

16 She considers what type of vegetable seeds to buy in the winter, to plant in the following spring to keep the grocery budget at a minimum.

17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong from picking up her children and rocking them until they fall asleep and socks, folding them and putting them away in their proper drawer.

18 She sees stuff laying around the house and sells it on craigslist, working late into the night.

19 In her hand she holds the needle and thread and grasps the sewing machine with her fingers replacing the button on his pants and letting out an inch or two in the waste.

20 She opens her house to the homeless and prepares meals for the needy.

21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are bundled up with hats, scarfs, gloves and long underwear...all matching, of course.

22 She has multiple duvay covers for her bed; each a different color and thread count for the different season.

23 Her husband is respected in the workplace, where he takes works diligently among his peers.

24 She organizes the scatterbrain pastor's schedule, and gives him reminders to aide in his fruitfulness.

25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 Her children wake each day desire to be like her; her husband also admires her and praises her:

29 "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."

30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

31 Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Never cease giving her the praise. She does more than you'll ever know.
